About Us

Sassafras Specialties LLC is a beloved family-friendly coffee shop in Green Lake, WI, proudly serving the community since 2014. We specialize in made-from-scratch morning pastries, fresh-baked goods, and all-day breakfast items, using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Whether you're in the mood for a warm, fresh pastry, a hearty sandwich, or a refreshing frozen smoothie, we’ve got you covered! Our menu features a variety of delicious offerings, including specialty coffee drinks, espresso-based beverages, flavored teas, and non-fat frozen smoothies. For lunch, we serve gourmet wraps, fresh salads, and hearty sandwiches made with premium Boar's Head meats and cheeses. With a cozy atmosphere perfect for meeting friends or getting some work done, Sassafras Specialties offers more than just great food and drinks — it's a place to relax and connect. We look forward to continuing to serve Green Lake, Ripon, and Berlin with fresh, high-quality meals and a welcoming experience. Our Story

Sassafras has been serving great coffee and tasty treats to the Green Lake area since 2014. Proud owner Carrie Nolen found the inspiration to open her own coffee shop when discussing the closing of another local shop 10 years ago. Carrie has a background in nursing and after taking some time off to care for her daughter, she wasn’t interested in returning to the healthcare industry. When the time came for her daughter to attend school, she turned her attention towards creating Sassafras, her very own coffee shop.

Here as Sassafras, we pride ourselves in creating a friendly and welcoming environment for our community members to enjoy. Our excellent customer service ensures our customers can always rely on us for morning and mid-day coffee, as well as tasty treats. Our reliable and delicious menu items keep loyal customers coming back, which is exactly why we serve Colectivo Coffee and Boar’s Head meats and cheeses. On Saturday mornings, we even serve Amish Donuts to satisfy your pastry cravings.

Our specialties include coffee, specialty drinks, and real fruit smoothies. We have baked goods, breakfast foods, various morning treats, and fresh lunches available. Made from scratch bakery items include muffins, scones, cakes, and cookies, and we have salads, fruit, and other quick eats for lunch. Drink options include coffee, as well as chai tea, green tea, and other iced and hot teas, as well as seasonal refreshments.

I just love this coffee shop. My favorite is an iced caramel sauce latte. They use Colectivo coffee roasters beans. Delicious! Everyone is super friendly. And if you come in enough, they even remember your usual drink. I'm local, so I come a lot, lol. They also have breakfast burritos and smoothies. And homemade donuts on the weekend from the amish. Have an annual family reunion in green lake and some of my cousins and I have a little tradition of going to this place on Sunday morning. Such a cute, cozy, lake vacay spot! This year I had a strawberry matcha and a pecan roll that I devoured before I remembered to take a picture (SO good!). Quiche, pastries, and all of the coffee beverages are always a hit. There was a little bit of a line when we arrived, but they move quick, and we still found a spot for all 9 (!!) of us to sit relatively together. Will be back, year after year.
